More than just obedience…
To us, dog training is much more than just sit, down, and stay.
It’s much more than tricks and staged exercises that you do on repeat for 6 weeks in a room full of other dogs.
Dog training is teaching.
Dog training is wellness.
For not only your dog… but you too.
A dog can know how to sit, and still feel afraid, or anxious, or excited.
A dog can stay, and still jump up on your guests and be completely checked out as soon as you release them.
Dog training is about CHOICES.
And teaching dogs to make good ones!
Out with the obedience!
What happens when obedience commands are no longer a priority?
It pushes us out of our comfort zone… where the BEST learning takes place.
Obedience is incredibly useful.
To be able to ask your dog to sit, or stay, or heel, is really fantastic!
I’m not telling you NOT to do it.
But if a dog can’t make good choices unless you have your eye on them or have them under command ALL. THE. TIME…. Then your dog may have some learning to do still.
When a dog is taught to THINK, to observe, and to analyze, helping them to make good choices becomes much easier.
Instead of micromanaging your dog when a guest walks through the door, and repeating “sit! SIITT! Sit Fido, please sit.” like a broken record…
You can trust that your dog will know not to jump, without you having to tell them much of anything.
Choices.
Mental health
If your dog is afraid, anxious, aggressive, hyperactive, or stressed…
That’s the first place we start.
We start with their mental health.
We all know that when WE feel horrible that we don’t perform at our best.
When the boss has too many demands.
The family is pulling you in every direction possible.
And you haven’t been able to get a good nights sleep in a few days.
Some of us transform into angry and cranky humans.
Well… dogs can perform and act much more horribly when their brain isn’t in the right place either.
So we start by teaching the dog to let go. To relax. To access happy and content emotions, instead of anxious, fearful, or aroused emotions.
We teach them to be more aware of these emotions.
We teach them that they can have a TON OF FUN! But at the right time and in the right ways.
WE teach them that they are allowed to fulfill their needs.. that they are allowed to chase (but not the cat).
They are allowed to jump around and tug on things (just not your guests or your kids clothes).
For them to be happy… they have to be allowed to be a dog.
For us to be happy, we have to teach them how to fit their dog-ness into a human world.
Support
Almost more important than teaching the dog… is teaching you.
Helping you to know exactly what your dog is feeling and thinking.
To be able to predict their choices before they have acted on them.
If we leave you hanging, then your dog MIGHT just be “fixed” after training with us.
But the relationship that you have with your dog… we want it to be a healthy one.
We want your investment to go toward your education.
To feel more confident with the next dog you add to your family.
Through bonus classes, virtual training, and one on one training, we’ve got you covered.
Any question that you have about dogs or dog training is worth asking in our little community.
Support is provided by a trainer, and also other dog owners who are cheering you on while they progress alongside you.
We don’t want your dog acting like an angel with us, and then losing their mind as soon as you take hold of the leash.
We want to feel useless. That means we’ve done our job.
